Like a shop, the stock market in Indonesia has its own market opening hours, aka the trading hours of the Exchange. Many stock players think that trading hours on the stock exchange are 24 hours. That's not the case though. Trading hours that are 24 hours are the forex market (forex), while trading hours for the stock market are not full 24 hours. Trading hours The stock exchange is divided into 3 markets, namely the regular market, the cash market and the negotiated market. If you don't understand the types of markets, please read the posts: Regular Market, Negotiated Market and Cash on Stock Exchange.
First, I will explain about trading hours in the regular market. It is these regular market trading hours that you must understand, because your daily trading activities are always carried out on the regular market. The following is a table of stock exchange trading hours adopted by the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).
REGULAR MARKET
The main trading hours of the stock exchange in the regular market are from Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday the stock market is closed. Monday-Thursday starts from 09.00-12.00. And session II at 13:30-15:49:59. On Friday there is a slight difference in trading hours. On Friday session I only up to 11:30. Meanwhile, session II will start again at 14:00. Just for your information, as of January 2, 2013 the trading hours of the Exchange start at 09.00. Prior to January 2, 2013, the Exchange's trading hours started at 09.30.
So outside of these hours you cannot do trading activities, either buying or selling shares. However, before the market starts at 09.00, there are two sessions before the opening, namely the pre-opening session which starts at 08:45-08:55. And the pre-opening session which starts at 08:55-08:59:59. Look at the table below.
Here are the pre-opening sessions and pre-opening sessions in the regular market. What happened to the pre-opening session? It is in this pre-opening session that Exchange Members begin to enter bids and bids. If I put it, pre-opening is a preparation session for trading.
While in the pre-opening session there will be a process of forming the opening price (opening). In the pre-opening session the stock market was already open, but the only moving stocks were LQ45 stocks. Remember, only LQ45. Why is that? I don't know the reason either. This is a provision from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Maybe because LQ45 is a list of the most liquid stocks, so the process of forming demand and supply for LQ45 shares can be carried out in the pre-opening session.
Maybe you often find some stocks whose closing price is not the same as the opening price. How did it happen? This is because of the pre-opening session. The difference between the closing price and the next day's opening price only applies to LQ45 shares.
If in the pre-opening session you place a buy order or a sell order, then your order status is: Waiting. When the market opens at 09.00, your order will change to Open. If your order has been dealt, then the status will be Match.
Once you understand the pre-opening and pre-opening sessions, in the stock market there is also such a thing as pre-closing and post-closing sessions. Look at the table below.
The stock market when entering 15:50 hours will pause briefly until 16:05. At 15:50-16:00, the Securities Exchange Member will start submitting requests and offers. Then after that, until 16:01-16:05, the system will match demand and supply based on price priority and time priority. If you don't understand price priority and time priority, please read: Bid-Offer in the Stock Market - Part I. What do they mean? This means that at 16:01-16:05, meeting here means that there will be a closing price formation process. This is why closing prices can occur, because of the pre-closing session.
After 16:05 to 16:15, the stock market will resume and you can trade. This session is called post closing. However, you need to understand, in this session you can only trade at one price, namely the closing price. Then, after 4:15 p.m. the stock market closes. So actually, the stock market will actually close at 16:15 instead of 16:00.
CASH MARKET
Trading hours on the cash market are as follows.
Trading hours in the cash market consist of only one session. Unlike in the regular market, and the cash market there is no pre-open or pre-open session.
NEGOTIATION MARKET
Trading hours in the negotiated market are as follows.
Trading hours in the negotiated market consist of 2 sessions. The trading hours are almost the same as the regular market.
Those are the trading hours on the Indonesian stock exchange.
Note: You don't really need to pay much attention to the trading hours of the negotiated market and the cash market, because if you open a stock account and then trade, your entire stock trading activity will almost certainly occur entirely in the regular market. If you wish to carry out trading activities in the cash market and negotiations, please ask your broker.
